Alison Pierce VanDis
Alison is a freelance writer and television producer who has come to Marin County via the Pacific Northwest. Alison grew up in Olympia Washington, exploring the muddy inlets and bays of the Puget Sound and hiking, biking, skiing and back packing throughout the gorgeous splendor of Washington State. She spent her college summers as a Washington State forest fire fighter driving her 10 ton fire rig over every back road and fire trail west of the Cascades.
Now she hikes and runs the trails of Mt. Tam steps from her back door. Alison feels that Marin is a lot like home – except for a significant improvement on the weather.
Best of all, both the Seattle area and the Bay Area are fabulous places to explore and celebrate what such natural beauty and abundance has to offer – and that means really great local food. Something that Alison not only loves to eat and cook with, but to write about too.
She has written and reported for WHERE Traveler Magazine, Ski Magazine, San Francisco Weekly, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Surfer Magazine, Glow Magazine, Afar magazine and others, as well as produced for CBS Eye on the Bay, Frontline World, PBS, BBC World, The Golf Channel and NBC Olympics. She attended journalism school at Stanford University where she was awarded the Communications Department Academic Scholarship and was an editor and features writer for The Stanford Daily.
